Why does Mein Wortschatz exist?
The language journal Mein Wortschatz is no coincidence – it is the result of years of experience in language teaching. I kept asking myself questions while teaching and observing:
- What is the most effective way for people to learn a new language?
- What challenges do they face?
- Why do many learners lose their motivation over time?
- What distinguishes successful language learners from others?
These thoughts accompanied me not only during lessons, but also when preparing for courses or even when riding my bike. Because one thing became clear to me again and again: everyone learns differently!
Integration means more than just language skills
Successful integration in a new country goes far beyond simply learning a language. I have experienced for myself how important it is to understand the new culture, forms of communication, humor and social customs.
I came to Germany when I was 21. Although I already spoke the language, I quickly realized that this alone was not enough to really feel at home. Instead, I had to get to know German culture from the ground up – from forms of politeness to time management and greeting rituals.
My way: learning with system and heart
In the early years, I actively wrote down new words and phrases. A small notebook was my constant companion – wherever I went. This simple method not only helped me to expand my vocabulary, but also to develop a feel for the subtle nuances of the language.
Of course there were setbacks. But my curiosity and desire to truly understand German culture were stronger. This positive attitude enabled me to integrate successfully without losing my own identity.
I would like to pass on these valuable experiences to help other immigrants in Germany, Austria and Switzerland to settle into their new environment quickly and successfully.
